Students' Welfare Committee

Profile

The Student Welfare Committee is responsible for all non-academic matters related to students. It works in coordination with other committees such as the Anti-Ragging Committee, Health Care Committee, Equal Opportunity Cell, and other student-centric committees to ensure the all-around development of students by addressing their needs.

Faculty members are nominated to the Student Welfare Committee by the Principal, with a senior faculty member acting as the convenor. The committee regularly convenes to explore ways of improving the student experience at S. B. Deorah College.

130	scholarship for meritorious students	The college authority has introduced new scholarship schemes for students, in addition to those provided by the State Government, starting from the academic session 2003-04. Two prestigious scholarships, named after Late Pratap Ch. Deka and his wife Late Kunjalata Deka, are awarded to students who achieve the highest marks in the TDC and H.S. Final Examination. In 2016-17, a new scholarship was introduced in the name of Late Ashok Kumar Deorah, sponsored by Mr. Amrit Deorah, Proprietor of Ashroy Concept Foods. This scholarship, known as the Faith, Diligence & Stoic Scholarship, provides Rs. 1.0 Lakh every year to be distributed among deserving and meritorious students of the College. In addition to its existing scholarship programs, S.B. Deorah College has introduced two new awards: the Dr. Subhalakshmi Nath Memorial Award and the Best Graduate of S.B. 132	Free Book Distribution	S.B. Deorah College has taken a significant step towards promoting educational equity by offering free textbooks to needy students. This generous initiative recognizes the financial challenges faced by many students and aims to create a more inclusive learning environment. In February 2023, the Assamese Department of S.B. 135	Inauguration of Counselling Centre-"Need of Mental Health for College Students	In a significant step towards promoting students' well-being, the Students' Welfare Committee of S.B. Deorah College has collaborated with the Department of Education and the NSS Unit to launch a Counselling Centre. The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Dharmendra Nath, Principal, S.B. Deorah College. The programme featured a thought-provoking talk by Nimi Borgohain, Chief Clinical Psychologist, GNRC Hospital, on the crucial topic "Need of Mental Health for College Students". As part of this initiative, it has been decided that Counsellor Nimi Borgohain will visit the centre twice a month to provide counselling services to students, teachers, office staff, and library staff, further reinforcing the Students' Welfare Committee's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive college environment.	2025-01-24	View File
136	Mentoring Class	S.B. Deorah College has embarked on a pioneering initiative to provide holistic support to its students through a comprehensive mentoring program. This innovative program, spearheaded by all departments aims to foster the overall growth and development of each student.Under this program, every student is assigned a mentor who provides guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their academic journey. The mentors, who are experienced faculty members, play a vital role in helping students navigate academic challenges, set goals, and develop essential life skills. The Students' Welfare Committee closely monitors the mentoring program to ensure that each student has a designated mentor and is benefiting from the program. 137	Monetary help to students by professors	The professors of various departments at S.B. Deorah College have demonstrated remarkable compassion and commitment to student welfare.
