The Department of Botany was established in the year 2018 by introducing B.Sc. as self-financed programme under Gauhati University. It was started with just 8 students and 1 teacher (contractual). It was provincialised in the year 2020 by Government of Assam, creating three sanctioned three posts for Assistant Professors in the Department. Accordingly, Dr. Deepanwita Deka, Somir Warisa and Kashmita Ojah were inducted as Assistant Professors in the department against the three sanctioned posts. At present the department has grown to accommodate 75 students in its B.Sc. programme. The Department offers both Honors and Regular courses to students. The Department is housed in a building with two well-equipped laboratories. The Department has started construction of a Departmental Botanical garden including some medicinal and ornamental plants.
